The COP-LOCK is a motor vehicle brake/clutch pedal lock that has been developed by a retired Australian Police Sergeant with 20 years’ experience in the force. His objective was to develop a user friendly manual anti-theft device to help combat the massive problem of car theft. It had to really work yet was within reach of the average motorist. Expensive electronic anti-theft devices can be easily defeated. The Cop-Lock is a strong secure physical barrier that can be used in conjunction with electronics as layered protection, as advocated by police and many insurance companies.
The unique patented boot fits over and surrounds the brake or clutch pedal and also secures to the pedal arm. These pedal parts are made of solid hardened steel and are one of the strongest components of the motor vehicle, being virtually impossible to cut by reasonable means. A self-locking shaft is pressed to the firewall/floor of the motor vehicle securing the Cop-Lock boot on the pedal and stopping the pedal being depressed.
The purpose of Cop-Lock is to prevent the effective use of the brake or clutch pedal. Because it is extremely difficult to remove, it deters potential thieves more than other manual devices (See our website for comparison). Preventing effective braking can be sufficient to prevent theft. However, in some manual motor vehicles the ignition cannot be activated unless the clutch pedal is depressed. For these cars it may be preferable to fit Cop-Lock to the clutch. In all other cases it is preferable to fit the Cop-Lock to the brake pedal. Many automatic motor vehicles with the transmission left in Park cannot engage Drive or start the ignition without first depressing the brake pedal. Cop-Lock thereby prevents ignition start as well as stopping effective
Ensure that the Cop-Lock is fitted correctly as per instructions:
Step 1: Either sitting in your vehicle or standing outside, pull the self-locking shaft back as far as it will go (remove key). Fit the boot of the Cop-Lock over the brake or clutch pedal, ensuring the slot and guiding ribs at the front of the boot are either side of the pedal arm. (See Figure 1).
Step 2: Now push down the shaft. The shaft should pass under the pedal firmly to the fire wall/floor. No key is required. (See Fig 2).
Step 3. To remove the COP-LOCK use the key to unlock the device and simply pull the shaft away from fire wall/floor as far as will go and lift clear of the pedal.
The supplied decals should be permanently affixed to the windows, preferably rear and driver's side window.
Cop-lock attaches to one of the strongest parts of the vehicle – unlike the steering wheel, which is designed to bend on impact as it is made of foam and soft metal. A thief can easily cut a steering wheel in seconds using a bolt cutter or hacksaw and remove the device attached.
Many electronic anti theft devices are expensive, some can be foiled by criminals and can malfunction. It has been independently tested by Hand Brake Turn an organisation sponsored by industry, government and police, whose staff are experienced in the ways that thieves steal vehicles.
